The Person Behind The Stories

A Life Shaped by Mountains, People & Travel

Having grown up in the village of Nalang in Dhading, around 90 kilometers from Kathmandu, Rajan was introduced early to the rhythms of mountain life. Raised in a close-knit family, he learned the importance of shared experiences, resilience and standing together through both difficult and joyful moments.

He later attended one of Kathmandu’s finest schools and went on to earn two master’s degrees — one in Sociology and another in Development Management.

But many of his most important lessons came outside the classroom. Since 2007, Rajan has worked in Nepal’s tourism and hospitality industry in different capacities, beginning with guest house management and tour services.

His journey into trekking also began in 2007 with the Poon Hill Trek, followed by leading a Chinese group to Annapurna Base Camp. Since then, he has completed numerous treks through the Annapurna, Everest and Langtang regions.

For Rajan, tourism has always been about more than reaching a destination. It is about the people involved, the relationships built along the way and the responsibility of creating experiences that people remember for the right reasons.

“ True success comes through collaboration — working closely with clients, trekking staff, travel agents and service providers to make every journey meaningful.

Why This Blog Exists

Not Just Places.
The Stories Between Them.

Born Above the Clouds is a place to record the journeys that are worth remembering — the places visited, people encountered, conversations shared and unexpected moments that often become the best part of a trip.

Most of these stories come from Rajan’s own experiences. From time to time, friends and fellow travelers may also contribute their own perspectives and memories.

This isn’t intended to be a perfect travel handbook. It is something more personal: a collection of experiences from people who have actually been there.

“
We travel, we experience, we learn — and eventually, what remains are the stories we choose to share.
